Port Wine MagnoliaMagnolia figoSynonyms: Michelia figo, Magnolia fuscataFamily: Magnoliaceae Visually, the flowers of Michelia figo are quite insignificant. It is their strong fruity fragrance which is the main attraction. The small leaves and bushy habit make it amenable to pruning into hedges or other shapes. Compared to many other flowering shrubs, it can be clipped with less risk of losing all the flowers because they are borne within the foliage. However, if flowers are important, delay hard cutting-back until flowering is finished, and ease off clipping in the autumn. More information on Port Wine Magnolia to come in future updates.
