This list is a work in progress. Over time, it will become a resource about garden plants suitable for Qld gardens (or potentially so), especially the subtropical and tropical climate zones. More...
The intention here is to develop a resource about garden plants that grow in Qld gardens (or could potentially be grown), concentrating on the best plants for the subtropical and tropical regions.
Nevertheless, be aware that some species within a listed genus might be unsuitable for cultivation in Qld, recognised weeds or even illegal to grow here. Be sure to check the suitability of any plant for a given location before planting.
A few popular plants better suited to cooler and/or Mediterranean climates may be included because many people will be searching for advice on how to grow them in Qld. In that case, the emphasis will be on the species or varieties which will perform here. However, plants that are mainly restricted to temperate/cool regions are extensively covered in other publications and won't be covered on this site.
Only the most commonly cultivated Australian native genera for home gardens will be listed above.
For the sake of legibility on screen, botanical names in the list have not been italicised.
