Acalypha hispida is a shrub of similar size to the colourfully foliaged A. wilkesiana varieties of Queensland gardens, but is grown primarily for their long, red "cat's tail" type inflorescences. It will grow in Brisbane but is not easy to obtain.
Seen for sale more often is Acalypha chamaedrifolia (still better known under its old name Acaypha reptans). It's a groundcover but the flowers, while smaller, are similar in style to A. hispida.
